Introduction to Comprehensive Sexuality Education:
All California youth are entitled to comprehensive sexual health education that empowers them with knowledge and skills for informed decision-making, building healthy relationships, promoting autonomy, and protection from sexually transmitted infections STIs, HIV, and uninted pregnancies. The Adolescent Sexual Health Education ASH Ed Program facilitates this through funding provided by the federal Personal Responsibility and Education Program PREP and state-funded Information and Education IE program to local implementing agencies across California.
Program Overview:
The ASH Ed Program is a comprehensive sexual health education initiative that encompasses several key components including self-efficacy development, communication skills trning for partner interaction and negotiation, understanding of consent and refusal, communication with trusted adults, eligibility for services, information on federal, state, and local clinical resources. This program offers versatile educational settings such as mnstream middle schools, high schools, alternative education facilities, social service agencies, juvenile detention centers, youth clubs, and community spaces.
For the fiscal years 2022 to 2025, the ASH Ed Program supports twenty local implementing agencies with PREP funds, while six additional agencies receive state-funded IE program resources.
