INTRODUCING THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH'S SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES CONTROL BRANCH
Welcome to the Sexually Transmitted Diseases Control Branch STD of the California Department of Public Health CDPH, where we are committed to reducing the transmission and impact of sexually transmitted infections STI, mpox, and viral hepatitis in California. Recognizing that diversity, equity, and inclusion form the core principles of our public health initiatives, the STD Control Branch embraces and values contributions from all communities across the state, ming to serve as a beacon for equitable STI prevention and control efforts.

Leadership Policy Development: We provide statewide guidance that supports public health strategies med at preventing and controlling sexually transmitted infections.
Trning Technical Assistance: Our team offers comprehensive trning programs designed to equip healthcare professionals with the latest knowledge, ensuring best practices are followed across communities.
Surge Capacity Outbreak Response: In the event of an outbreak, our branch is ready to provide rapid response services and guidance, ensuring swift action in protecting public health.
Safe Net Service Delivery: We collaborate closely with local health jurisdictions and other community partners to improve access to STI testing and treatment services for priority populations.
In recent years, notably from 2017-2021, there has been a significant rise of 83 in congenital syphilis cases across California. This underscores the importance of early prenatal care; without it, a pregnant individual may unknowingly risk their baby's health due to STI.
To combat this alarming tr and rse awareness about congenital syphilis prevention, we have developed resources, including guidelines on expanded screening recommations for the prevention of congenital syphilis. These are complemented by data-driven insights from our latest publications:
