Background: There has been a rapid increase in notifications for chlamydia and gonorrhea among men who have sex with men MSM. Limited data exists on the prevalence of these infections across various anatomic sites. This study med to explore the trs, associations, and changing patterns of urethral and rectal chlamydia and gonorrhea among MSM in Guangdong Province, China.
Methods: The research analyzed data from MSM atting sexually transmitted infection STI clinics under the Guangdong provincial sentinel surveillance network for the period between 2018 to 2022. Descriptive analysis was conducted on prevalence trs over time using summary statistics and graphical representations of the data. Multivariable logistic regressionwere employed to assess associations with risk factors.
Results: During the study period, there was a notable rise in chlamydia and gonorrhea cases among MSM across different anatomic sites. The rectal site showed significantly higher rates compared to the urethral site for both infections. Logistic regression analysis identified several risk factors associated with increased infection rates, including age group, sexual practices, substance use, and HIV status.
s: Chlamydia and gonorrhea infections continue to be a significant public health concern among MSM in Guangdong Province. The findings highlight the importance of targeted screening strategies focusing on rectal anatomic sites and emphasize the need for comprehensive risk reduction programs tlored towards different age groups and behavioral patterns within this population.
Implications: This study underscores the necessity for policymakers, healthcare providers, and public health professionals to implement evidence-based interventions that address the specific epidemiological trs observed. These could include community-wide awareness campgns, enhanced screening protocols, and access to affordable treatment options to mitigate the burden of these sexually transmitted infections among MSM in southern China.
