Peking Union Medical College Hospital Celebrates Chinese Doctors' Day with Honors and Innovation

August 19, 2022 marks the fifth Chinese Doctors' Day. To commemorate this special occasion and inspire medical professionals to uphold their noble spirit in serving society, Peking Union Medical College Hospital PUMCH celebrated it with grand ceremonies on the afternoon of August 17th. The event was med at encouraging all hospital employees to continue the legacy of doctors while pursuing high-quality development for hospitals and contributing to China's health care goals.

Mr. Yang Jianli, Executive Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the National Health Commission's directly affiliated units, delivered a video message in tribute to healthcare professionals who have tirelessly worked on the frontline agnst COVID-19 and safeguarded public health. He emphasized that as PUMCH embarks on its journey towards high-quality development in the new era, it should focus on fostering professionalism among its medical practitioners and serve as rolecommitted to compassionate care. Furthermore, he underscored the importance of actively engaging in anti-COVID-19 combat efforts while also promoting scientific innovation.

To pay homage to this significant day, four prominent doctors - Cui Liying from Neurology Department, Li Tsheng from Infectious Diseases Department, Wang Weibin as Deputy Director of General Surgery Department, and Che Lu, an atting physician in the Anesthesiology Department - shared their experiences under the theme Inspiring Messages from PUMCH Predecessors. Their heartfelt speeches detled the values and actions that define doctors at PUMCH who are pioneers, ready to pave the way for others while dedicating themselves to serving the country and people.

The celebration also included a video segment featuring five eminent medical practitioners such as Zhang Xiaoqian and Lin Qiaozhi. They imparted wise teachings on professional dedication, emphasizing continual learning in their professions and selfless service to the nation.

Embracing technological innovation was another highlight of the event. Five young innovators from various departments - Feng Guodong from Otolaryngology Department, Zhao Chan from Ophthalmology Department, He Huwu from Intensive Care Unit Department, Wang Qiang from Gastroenterology Department, and Wang Wei from Pediatrics Department - participated in the Youth Salon: Exploring Innovation for the People, discussing their innovative strategies to benefit patients.

The event also showcased a short documentary titled Peking Union Medical College Hospital Pursuing Greater Heights. It highlighted how PUMCH's multidisciplinary team works tirelessly agnst all odds, providing hope and treatment options for patients with rare diseases across China. The video resonated with the audience as participants sang together Tomorrow Will Be Better, expressing their commitment to safeguarding public health.

In addition, Yang Rui, Level II Bureau Rank Official of the Party Committee under the National Health Commission, Hu Ruirong, Director of Medical Institutions Division within the Department of Medical Administration at the National Health Commission, and all PUMCH leaders were present.

This celebration was atted by senior, middle-aged, and young physicians, new hires, postdocs, as well as other PUMCH employees who joined via a live stream from 70 different venues.

The event concluded with all participants participating in an onboarding oath recitation led by Ma Xiaojun, Head of Medical Affrs Department. The powerful declaration affirmed their resolve to uphold the duties of health care professionals and protect mankind's welfare.
