This special issue is dedicated to disseminating articles on the diagnosis, management, and surveillance of sexually transmitted infections STIs, grounded in the 2020 Clinical Protocol and Therapeutic Guidelines PCDT for comprehensive care of individuals with STI 1. This collaborative effort between Epidemiologia e Servi?os de Saude: revista do Sistema unico de Saude do Brasil Epidemiology and Health Services: Journal of the Brazilian National Health System RESS and Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical Journal of the Brazilian Society of Tropical Medicine RSBMT, embodies a partnership ming to provide healthcare professionals across Brazil with essential information on STI care.

The provision of high-quality, scientifically informed healthcare for individuals with STI necessitates an amalgamation of knowledge from various sources including professional expertise, individual patient characteristics, and system capabilities. To effectively address the condition, healthcare professionals require appropriate support in diagnosing and treating patients. The Brazilian National Health System SUS has always been built on scientific principles and international best practices since its inception, leading to the development of the PCDT through the establishment of the National Committee for Health Technology Incorporation in the Unified Health System in 2011 2.

of developing clinical practice guidelines based on evidence guide clinicians by framing research questions, conducting systematic literature searches and assessments, grading the certnty of evidence and recommation strength, drafting the documents, and soliciting public input. Periodic updates are provided as part of this . Prior to adopting this approach, various other guidelines have guided healthcare practices within SUS.

The development process relies on skilled capital for identifying and interpreting evidence and well-designed studies that avoid conflicts of interest, correctly answering clinical practice questions 3. The adoption of evidence-based recommations requires their dissemination among healthcare practitioners and the broader healthcare system.

Incorporating strategies to implement these guidelines in resource-limited settings is crucial. An overview of systematic reviews highlights various approaches for implementing health systems reforms in low-income countries 4.
